Never mind the flaming, I don't care about Fonck's character. I simply want to know how many of his victory claims can be confirmed nowadays and how many of those were kills in the strict German sense, ok? I was simply being skeptical about such a high score, because of certain 'facts' which are not even disputed here.

In the spirit of this thread I proclaim myself Canadian.

As everyone knows Canada is the best country in the world and had the best troops and peelots in WWI. This discussion is now closed.

René Fonck may well have been the best(I think Barker coulda smoked his @$$), however my counry saved his country on two occasions. Enough said.

C'mon guys the low blows are getting lame and going after Jim "Ace" is pointless, trust me, the guy's skin is too thick.

I beg to differ: his skin is quite thin. That'a what makes him so delightfully irascible.

It's his skull that's thick.

You should be more patient, J - and wait like us for the new Bailey-book (coming soon) which I expect to offer some advances in the verification of Foncks victories. Than a discussion makes simply more sense!

Adding to what Hannes said, its hard to compare RF's claims to current books, ie, Jasta war chronology. a few give Pfalz d3, and Fokker D7 as a/c shot down, but most are either 'albatros, 2 seater, EA, etc' and hard to figure out what he shot down exactly... ill ck on the fighters here soon, but my air conditioning is toast, and im not in the mood to research.....

my take,
Ron

Kory,
I have a thick skin, and a hard head, and I'm of IRISH descent! ERIN GO BRAUGH! I used to think the German's were the greatest, and then I got a clue and grew up! Yes, my skull might be thick BUT there is a intelligent brain residing within! However, with Craig and Co. if you were to look into their ears, you would see "SPACE ... THE FINAL FRONTIER!" ; ) And I'm NOT on meds! : )
Regards,
Jim 'ACE'

Jim, and Another Observer:

You strike true, o valiant warriors, and my tears fall like rain. Chastened, I bow before your superior intellect, and leave a trail of golden drops of submission as I slink away.
