From the other end of the spectrum.

After getting over the idea of having to log in to play RoF I am now a great Fan of it. I prefer playing against real people and spend most of my playtime doing so in RoF. The physics and damage models are the best there is as well as the graphics. The campaigns leave a lot to be desired. ACMs againt real, smart people can be a steep learning curve, but once you get to the point of being able to hold your own and get kills on real players, there is no better fun in a flight sim.

I bought RoF, but have never spent any time with it because everytime I tried to load up a missions I seemed to have some problem with the shell program. I appreciate the depth of content there, but I can't really go back to flying againt AI opponents. There is no ill will here, we need as many WW1 sims as we can get!

I've joined a "squad" and fly for an hour or two most every night.

S!

Oh my, I was unaware that the rules of this thread stipulated that you needed to own/fly both in order to comment. Pardon Monsieur.

Again, must have missed the memo.

Seriously, lighten up. I read through the thread and I don't recall anyone stating something like; Sim "A." is the dogs balls and Sim "B." is pants.

So stop oppressin' us.

Gee, I must look more harsh in print than I sound when I talk. I'm certainly not angry at anyone.

I'm just adding a word of caution due to the many other flame fests that have erupted on this topic.

I was trying to throw water on the fire, NOT gasoline.

No, there are no rules that say you have to have flown both OFF and RoF to comment here.

But saying you "love" one without ever having tried the other isn't providing much of a comparison or contrast for the person who asked the original question and who is contemplating whether to buy either or both.

It's a valid topic for a forum since there are two popular sims.

But if you favor one the question arises: "Compared to what?"

And if you have nothing to compare, what's the point of offering an uninformed opinion?

Barkhorn, as far as I know, you only fly one. Did I strike a nerve?

Sorry. Didn't realize....

I'm out of this conversation

I am a "cheerleader" for OFF as well. I love it. The depth of the sim amazes me, and whilst RoF might be better or worse is immaterial...I am qualified to say I love this sim. Who else can say whether I love it or not?

Boy, that dingleweewee has dryer lint on the brain! OFFBH&H is, in my not humble opinion, the best fight sim available.

ttttttiger,
You do indeed come off badly in print. Perhaps you really do mean to be rude. I certainly do.
And for the record, I have had all the same problems with RoF, and finally gave up, as I felt that even if it IS pretty, it's not worth my trouble. But to those who like it, more power to you!
That is what keeps America great...the choice of what planes to fly in a waste of potentially productive time.

Another note to add... The OFF: BHaH community at CombatAce is very friendly and helpful. If you need assistance setting up, downloading the improvements or add-ons, they will graciously help, with no "NOOB!" jibes. I haven't played OFF online in Multiplayer yet, but I know that the experienced Flight Leaders will assist you in getting up and running, and fly with you a few times until you're comfortable in flying in formation, and to protect you from your opponents. The multiplayer chat in CombatAce shows me that there is no animosity, no experienced fighters hovering around an enemy aerodrome to shoot novices the second their tailskid is off the ground.

avionette, that is a book. Not a computer program. There is a website that covers most of the WWI sims called Wings of Honor - Where Combat Simulation Begins! Your W.W.I Flight Sim Resource This website has good information regarding current and past WWI sims.

Just update to that "always online requirement". Neoqb is dropping that.
