Well, the wife got me OFF for my b'day. Good. Installed it fine, but it crashes from time to time. Actually it has crashed at least half the time I have played it tonight. Went to get the latest patches that I assume will probably fix 90% or better of my problems, only to find out that I have to get a $30.00 program to unzip the patch. Bummer. Wish I had known that before she spent the $$$, we are on a very limited budget now like a lot of folks now.

Hi Warren,

There are free zip utilities available. I use Filzip.
I know others who use 7-Zip.

I'm sorry you are having some trouble with OFF. There is a brand new patch that addressed almost all of the known issues and the guys on our forum are just raving about how well their machines are running the program now. The patch is located on the Homepage. While at the homepage click on the forum and check the threads. There is so much help to be had there. Please don't give up yet! If you are into these birds give it a little more effort. I don't think you'll be sorry. The development team is great and the forum members are real "sweethearts" hehehe. http://www.overflandersfields.com
Oh yes, winrar is a free download also.

SCMc,
Thanks, I have never had any trouble unzipping compressed files on my PC before. Evidently I don't have the program needed to unzip a rar file. I was just kind of surprised by this as I have downloaded patches for sims before, but I cannot recall them being in this format.

Ricketycrate,
I have the patch, the problem is getting it ti unzip since I do not have the program to unzip it, unlike other compressed files for sims I have downloaded. I looked at the winrar site last night and the first tabs were about buying the utility, not a free download. I have not given up, I just do not have time to deal with right now with school(teaching) and school(classes, papers, graduate school boards, etc.) I gave myself a vacation last night of about three hours to play with it since it was new. Maybe this summer I will have time.

Thanks Bucky, I downloaded the 7-zip that SCMc recommended. However, I do not have time to play the sim now to see if it worked. I have spend my day today studying about Italy and Spain during the period of 1875-1914 for my Origins of Contemporary Europe course. Gotta look up some journal articles too. I keep getting images in my head of Macchi flying boats. I must resist the temptation to fly OFF. I must resist. Must resist.
I also have to write lesson plans for this week.I wanted to spend a month on Europe with my kids, they are really interested in it. As it is, circumstances beyond my control dictate that I spend only two weeks on it.

I must resist.

Off p3

I am here to tell you that I run Vista 64 Ultimate. I have run OFF P1, 2, and now Phase 3 with no problems at all. There were some glitches with P3 at first but the developers have solved most if not all with the v1.3 patch.

Multiplayer is now as it was in Phase 2 for people with XP and there is a simple workaround for Vista users that does not require you to have two full versions installed on you computer. There is a simple matter of a copy/paste/rename your CFS3.exe file. There are also no longer aircraft mismatch errors.

Game hosts can now host custom on-line missions for many people to fly at the same time as either co-op or dogfight scenarios. We played with 9 people last night and had little problems. Everyone seemed to enjoy decent FPS and the few instances of AI stutter seemed to work itself out after a few seconds.

Using a voice comm like TeamSpeak or Roger Wilco really helps when there are problems with people connecting to MP games. They can be worked out right then and there.

My suggestion is to go to the OFF Phase 3 forum on Simm outhouse and get hooked up with games through them.

My Gallery
Do people use voice comms while actually flying online or only prior to flight?
