I drove to Greenville, PA to see Fred Murrin. I needed to go to school for weaving the cable for the landing gear bracing wire. He was extremely helpful! he made this neat jig to hold the cable ...
with the cable it looks like this ...
He is a very good teacher, he made one (making sure I understood each move), then watched as I did one. here is one of his and one of my splices side by side.

Otto Beck: his original WWI pilot´s helmet + goggles
Hello, Jeff,
congrats on your fine work!
And maybe this is related:
Recently Otto Beck´s helmet + goggles were found - neatly stacked in a box for 91 yrs - and like he just put them off.
The heirs would like to see them off into the air again on some pilot´s head.
If not you - maybe you know anyone who would like to buy them?
Best regards
Ray Morgan

Looking for assistance
Hi all,
I am looking for assistance on how the fabric is applied to the trailing edge of the horizontal stabilizer. I know what AC 43.13-1b says ... but how did Fokker do it?
My question is, does the fabric stop at the edge of the wood, or does it overlap inside the cove cut?
Thanks for the assist!

Jeff,
Knowlton reference info:
Not very clear but you can see the fabric wrap around the wood gap filler.
It is clearer in this picture of the aileron. The fabric wraps around the edges, maybe ~1/4 of the distance on either side. There is a tape that goes over top providing the complete seal.
Remember that this is Albatross construction so Fokker may differ.
Regards,
John

the second hinge
John,
I asked in an earlier note with regard to the Knowlton plane, what the rudder hinge just beneath the one clearly connected to the vertical stabilizer was for. I assume there is another hinge at the bottom of the rudder. Having two hinges within inches of each other seems very strange. is there a chance that the tube on the leading edge of the rudder is discontinuous between these two hinges? Is this detail found on any other "survivors?"

Gypsy Queen engines for Mercedes
I've been reading different threads related to building a Fokker D.VII and saw references to Gypsy Queen engines as a possible substitute, with Pavel in B.C. using one. The thread about Mercedes alternates was closed so I'm posting this here. Have other people on the list looked at the Gypsy Queen 70 engines for sale by Wallaby Air Tours in Australia?
Darrel
I just tried to post the link but I haven't posted ten times yet so it wasn't allowed. It looks like they have ten or eleven engines and spare parts for sale, although I don't know if it is a current offer.

Very nice Jeff! Excellent work.
Looks like your boy will have one gift on his Christmas list ....
Dear Santa, I would like a F4U Corsair for Christmas, dad is already building a Fokker D.VII for me ...
Handsome son you have there.
WF2
P.S. It looks like a W.A.R. Replica 1/2 scale Corsair, think the company changed hands but plans still available. I have a set.
