I was noticing in my WW1 1914-18 book that whenever the numbers of the planes lost in combat were mentioned the Allies seemed to have gotten their butts whipped. Does anyone know the total number of planes lost for the Allies vs the total # of planes lost for the Central Powers or even just the Germans?

Wow. When did that page go up? I guess I'm just slow on the uptake. That answered my question completely. And the allies did get their butts completely whipped. Especially the french.

Hmm. Extremely unlikely numbers for "losses through combat"

According to all sources I know, the most usual reason for a lost plane was damage by accident, mostly in landing. These must be included into the "losses by combat", or there would be no planes left to crash.

Regarding the German post-war data, Germany lost some 4000 planes in combat, and a slightly larger number of pilots and observers was killed. They claimed a total of some 8000 aerial victories, some 65% of these achieved by the score of aces.

The last column must be faulty.
