For sale, the rare and original RAF 74 Squadron photo album of Lt. Clifford “Split Pins” Mansfield. Clifford Mansfield was a non-flying equipment officer for 74 Squadron and this was his personal photo album.

The album contains 138 photos. A small number of these are commercial images with the majority being candid snapshots of the members of 74 Squadron. Pictured are Mick Mannock, Taffy Jones, Bolo Dolan, Grid Caldwell, Sidney “Timbertoes” Carlin, Archie Clements, Swazi Howe, Andrew Kiddie, Harry Coverdale to name a few. In addition there are photos of the ground personnel and various aircraft. The time spans of the photos appear to me to begin in early 1918 and continue up to the armistice.

Condition: The spine of the album is held together by adhesive tape from the period and in some places it is loose. The album itself it bumped and battered but still intact and displays well. There are 14 or so photos that are very light and faded, probably from poor developing, but the images are still there and can be made out and could be darkened with photo shop. The rest of the photos are fine. (Please see scans)

This is a rare opportunity to own an original photo album from one of the most famous fighter squadrons in the RAF. I have been a student of 74 Squadron for some time now and images of 74 are very difficult to find.
