Sopwith Camel D9638

Issued to 203 Sqn (coded III)16/8/18.
Lt H W Skinner claimed a Fokker DVII crashed near Haynecourt 14.30 25/8/18. He claimed another Fokker DVII at Noyelles-sur-Escaut at 08.30 2/10/18 then crashed on nose near Morenchies with Lt. Skinner WIA. Possibly shot down by by Leut. Mayer Jasta 31 for his first victory. Crashed and written of Noyelles 8/10/18
I wonder was it just written off as a result of his crash where the aircraft ended up on it's nose, unlikely?
Hope this helps.
Happy Hunting
Joe

PFFF & Joe

There is a fine photo of D9638 on its nose near Morenchies (north edge of Cambrai) in Leonard Rochford's excellent 'I Chose the Sky' William Kimber p197.
203 Sqn Lt Breakey (leading patrol) also claimed a Fokker crashed.
TSTBF says it was shelled.

Mayer's claim Js 31 was at Homblieres, which is east of St Quentin and 40 km to south of 203 Sqn action. Probably an invalid claim against 208 Sqn or maybe 85 Sqn?

Cheers Russ
