Scale ModelWorld 2009

Hi to all,

I have returned from SMW 2009 held in the town of Telford in England this past weekend, I'll put some photos of the wonderful kits I saw there.

Hi Miguel,

Lovely models--thanks for sharing. I particularly like the 'Walfisch' ---a favourite of mine.

Cheers,
Dave.

That Caudron is fantastic! Was there any information on the scale? Was it scratch-built, or was it a kit?

Thanks for sharing your photos.

Regards,

Regards,
The Caudron is a scratchbuild in 1/48 with a few commercial parts, such as the engines and a few minor pieces. It is probably the finest WWI model I have ever seen. The scratchbuilding is absolutely incredible, but also the paint job is incredibly good. It accentuates the structure of the a/c with subtle shading but is not over the top (like the folks that insist on "shading" rib tapes with their airbrushes, a personal pet peeve of mine). It's rare to find a model that combines superb scratchbuilding with a very high quality paint job as well, and this one is stunning. Well deserved winner of the best aircraft, IMO it should have been best in show but I may be biased because I am a WWI nut and I know the buiilder. The master modeller that created this is Kostas Patsaros, and I think all the other award winners in the 1/48 class were Greek modellers also.

Talking of great scractchbuilds, the GWICC (Great War International Cyber Chapter) had a superb display of unique and odd a/c from WWI, including a scratchbuilt Dornier RS-1 and SS R 1 by Ed Banham. There were also lots of great models by Dave Hooper and Steve Cox of lots of rare a/c. including Steve's scratchbuilt Beobrazhov (no idea if I spelt that right) triplane. I'll post a link to photos of the display once some are up.

SMW was another great show this year, I saw all the WNWs built up on various stands which was good to see. Also met up with Rowan of Pheon, a charming man, a true scholar and gentleman. He has some interesting plans underway, I am sure he will post on here when he is ready to tell us more.

Cheers,

Nigel

Yes Nigel this is corect all the 1/48 class award winners were Greek modelers:

Gold in his class and Best Aircraft and the Cross and Cocade Trophy for the Caudron G.4 from Kostas Patsaros,

Silver for the Phoenix DI from Giorgos Tenediotis,

Bronze for Sopwith Camel from Aris Polyzos,

Commended for Albatros W4 also from Kostas Patsaros

and Commended and the Jim Howard Trophy for my Albatros W4, whitch most of you are familiar with its constraction in another topic in this forum.
