Looking for an Albatros photo

G'day.

I've recently bought an Eduard 1\48 scale Albatros kit, and as such I'm currently researching all I can about the aircraft I'd like to model. Its a very nice looking Albatros DV with an interesting history, probably many here will recognise.

Flown by Oblt. Richard Flasher and handed down von Hans von Hippel, both of Jasta 5, shortly before the aircraft lost the lower port wing during flight, on 18 of Feb, 1918.

So far I've tracked down two original photo's of the albatros, before and after it lost the lower port wing mid flight.

One of which is the Jasta 5 flight line, shown here 3rd from the right:

And the other after the wing failure:

I have heard that 1 more photo of this same a\c can be found, before the mid-flight accident but I have not had any success in finding it, or any others to-date.

If anyone know's who I may be able to get in touch with, or if you could post the image here your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks alot.

Dave- Jagdstaffel 5 Vol 1 by G K Merrill (Albatros) has both the photos you showed plus at least two addional photos, one a beautiful precrash portrait. The book also has a color profile of the aircraft. Available from Wise Owl and probably abebooks.com. Both volumes are highly recommended and contain a wealth of photos and profiles. Von Hippel's lightning bolt with arrow head Albatros aircraft are very well covered. He was nearly an Entente ace by the time he got done crashing aircraft. Vol 2 has a wonderful Robert Karr cover showing von Hippel losing it and scaring people, dogs, cows, and chickens during a landing attempt.
