Blip switch

I've been reading the book "I Chose the Sky" by Leonard H. Rochford DSC and Bar, DFC. In it he recalls flying Bristol Scouts while a serving as a member of the War Flight at Eastchurch in 1915.

He commented most favorably on the Scout calling it "a beautifull little aeroplane to fly". His plane was powered by a 80 hp Le Rhone and he felt it was more powefull than the same aircraft powered by an 80 hp Gnome. Also he favored the Le Rhone because it was controlled by a throttle rather than a blip switch as in the Gnome.

I was under the impression that ALL rotories had a "blip" switch. Is this not the case?
