It's been quite a while since I read any books on Manfred, but I was wondering how often, if at all, his aircraft suffered combat damage from his fights?
There are the well documented two instance when it did; once when he wounded on 6 July 1917, and again on his death on 21 April 1918.
Given the number of combats he was involved in, victorious or otherwise, I would expect his aircraft t have often been hit by bullets. Not to the extent of the wild men like Ball or Guynemer, but even careful aces like McCudden and Mannock's aircraft were hit by bullets. Although from memory I believe the Fonck's aircraft was only hit twice (but don't quote me on that).
