Boelcke's Albatros D11 markings & camouflage-can anyone help?
The title says it all, really. Is there anyone out there who can help?
I plan to make a 1/72 model of the above and include the crowd of aces around the machine when Boelcke landed at Lagnicourt aerodrome after scoring his 34th victory.
I think the wood finish was darker than later Albatri and the wings were only two colours: brick red/bronze green being painted in a right to left slant.L-R on the horizontal tail plane. But what was the actual sequence? Source photos are a little sketchy, owing to the sheen of the daylight playing on them, particularly on the top wing. There is also a sworl pattern in evidence on the port lower wing. Was this repeated on the top wing and (clear doped?) rudder also?
I have been trying to do my homework, but many different sources contradict each other. It would be great, and I would be most thankful to have a definitive answer.
Thank You,in advance.
Matt.
