Difference between DVII (alb) Early/late???

Hi there!
For a friend of mine (and my own knowledge) could you clarify the difference between the early and late albatros built Fokker DVII? Are the early one mounted with the BMW engines hence the exhaust that goes through the engine panel? Were there any early Polish DVII???
Ciao
