August G. Blume
August G. Blume, preeminent authority on Eastern Front aviation of WW1, peacefully passed away on February 6th. I last spoke to him by phone, while he was in the hospital, on February 3rd.
August "Augie" Blume was a valued and very active Board Member of WW1 Aeroplanes, Inc., until health matters caused hm to resign last year.
During the two years I served as Chair of WW1 Aeroplanes, Inc., I benefited from his advice and experience, and his criticism and enthusiasm.
His unique and remarkable two-volumes on Eastern Front aviation of WW1, which took many years to complete, will be published this year by Schiffer and will stand as a tribute to the remarkable depth of his knowledge and his intense dedication to scholarship.
He was a wonderful friend to many who shared his enthusiasm for early aviation and will be very sorely missed by those who knew and worked with him, and those priviledged to call him a friend.
