New beta version of recorder just released
Just thought I'd drop back by and let folks know that the developer of the recorder module for FS9 has just released a new beta version (1.3) of his freeware recorder module which has two new features over the version that I mentioned earlier. First, the aircraft file playback has been made much smoother. Planes no longer jerk all over as you fly up close to them. Second, and most importantly, you can now do multi-file playback at the same time.
Also the new recorder files record which plane was used in making the file, which makes it much easier to set-up multi-plane formations. The only limit on how many files can be played back is the resources of your computer. I was able to launch 7 highly detailed models from a runway in a mass scramble with out any problems. These recorder files don't have a time limit and I've been able to make some that last as long as 8 minutes.
What does this mean for people flying WW1 planes in FS9? You can now do multi-aircraft formation flying and takeoffs. You could set-up a fake dog-fight with several aircraft involved. I call it fake because there's no damage model in FS9 so you still can't shoot things down or blow things up but you can make it look like you did with different light and smoke effects.
Also the new advanced spot plane and advanced tower view controls allow you to have just about any camera view you can imagine.
What advantage does this have over other flight sims, like OFF? Better camera control and a wider selection of planes to fly. While there is no real gameplay like there is in OFF, the visuals can be much more interesting and it seems there's not much limit except one's own flying ability in being able to re-create historical events and watch them be played back from any view.
Thought you folks would be interested in knowing about this.
