Albatros CL Type?

Hello All,

Currently for sale on ebay at :

https://www.ebay.de/itm/Foto-1-WK-Fl...4AAOSwX1JcuJ3l

is a photograph of a machine captioned by the seller as an Albatros CL. I believe that the serial shown is C 1114/18 which is certainly new to me. I believe that the seller has correctly identified the machine and I have a gap in the serial range between C.1112/18 to C.1114/18 so can anyone confirm that this is an Albatros and has anyone any of the other two machines C.1112/18 or C.1113/18. The seller has among several interesting photos another machine captioned Albatros CL. But I can't see a serial.

Regards,

Clint

Hi Clint,

Thanks for pointing these out.
As the seller has tagged a Halb CLII with the same description, I'd definitely take it with a large grain of salt.

Hi Josef,

Thanks for the warning. With regard to the machine without a serial you are definitely correct. I've just looked through WDF 27 and there is the same photo of that machine. Its captioned as undergoing Typenprufung.

However C.1114/18 is interesting. It may not be an Albatros but doesn't look like either a Halberstadt CL.II or CL.IV given the tail shape and the straight wing struts, so hopefully someone can provide a definitive ID.

Something I do find unusual about C.1114 is the tail and fuselage crosses which look to date from an earlier period than 1918.

Regards,

Clint

Hello Richard,

Yes, it does look quite like the Halberstadt C.IX. Also checking my Grosz,Haddow, Schiemer I see that two were built, so a possibility that C.1113/18 was also the same type.

My concern with the ID as a Halberstadt C.IX would be that C.1114/18 preceeds by some distance any known Halberstadt C.V serial. Also would aircraft built specifically for A-H have German serials. Finally as far as I can tell the tail cross on the photo of the C.IX is in the late war style. See :

Still when all is said and done the ebay photo does look a lot more like a Halberstadt design than a Albatros.

Regards,

Clint
