Well,
the itch to build has really gotten to me. that and the look of the Fok. D.VIII has grown on me too. Does anyone know any good/bad features about the Airdrome Airplanes Fokker D.VIII kit? Can you build one and use a different motor other than a 2 stroke Rotax? Are there any Airdrome D.VIII builders here? I would appreciate any feedback given. Thanks! dtenney P.S. I am still planning to build a full-scale Fok. D.VII, this will help cure the itch to build i have..thanks again to all. |

I can only give you second hand info... BUT... per Robert Baslee, it's a nice flying aircraft. Per Dick Starks, it's Baslee's BEST flying aircraft. (and his E-III will turn circles around the Nieports) The cockpit is too small for me- I didn't see the aircraft, but I DID talk to Baslee in person, and looked at his OTHER designs in person. But, I'm about 5'9" and 245 or so. (It isn't made for lard-butts like me.) For regular-sized folks, it should be fine. I looked his other stuff over closely- he does good work. His designs are well thought out. BUILD IT LIKE HE DESIGNED IT, and you should have a very nice aircraft. And ask him about engine choices- he's a heck of a nice guy, easy to talk to, and very helpful.

Brad,
thanks for the information. I wonder if i would fit into one of Baslee's D8's, im over 6 ft tall, and about 200lbs. What do you think? As far as contacting him, is there any chance Mr. Baslee has an email address? Or will I have to call or write? Thanks again.. dtenney |

Robert is a fairly small guy, relative to you or I- I'm a lot wider and you're a lot taller.
 (I don't mean he's a little tiny guy- he's average in size.) I'm pretty sure you'll fit from a width perspective, and you have unlimited headroom- but you might want to ask him about legroom, and about where your head may fall in relation to the wing for visibility reasons. That factor can be altered by the vertical position of the seat though. I recommend calling him. He's a nice guy, very helpful, and spending a buck or 2 on a long distance call is money well spent if it helps with your decision.Brad p.s. his full size DrI is one of the coolest things I have ever seen.
