Subject: nieuportbuilders: Full Size Nie-17
PRESS RELEASE:
Graham Lee has produced a set of plans and basic instructions for the FULL
SIZE Nieuport 17.
Based upon the 7/8 version, the construction is little different, with the
exception of the size and the torque tube aileron controls (not practical
in the 7/8 scale size). The torque tube is a 1 1/2 inch tube extending
from the wing root to the aileron, and being driven by a push rod from the
control stick.
Using the same aluminum tube and gusset method, the FULL SIZE aircraft
comes out only slightly more than 1/2 the weight of the original 1916
aircraft, and requires only slightly more than half the power.
A large reduction will be necessary for the Rotax and Hirth engines, and
for the VW, a reduction of between 2 and 3 to 1. (3:1 @ 3600 rpm = 1200
and a 103 inch prop) 55 or 65 hp and prop speed under 1800 rpm should be
most suitable.
Wing span; 26 ft
Length; 19 ft.
Weight empty; 325
Gross weight; 650
Pilot height ~6 ft. 7 in.
top speed; 110
stall speed ~35
Construction time: 800 to 1000 hours
Plans price, (special for the first orders) $120.oo

This should make the tall fellows very happy.

And the little folks like
me won't be disappointed either.
