Ilya Muromets bomber

Would any kind person have a scan of Harry Woodman's Windsock vol 12, issue 2 article (1996) on the Illya Muromets bomber. I understand he clarifies some inaccuracies with maquette's 1/72 scale model?

Hi,

I will not scan for you a complete russian book ...

But you will find pictures on this website :
Translated version of http://www.airforce.ru/history/finne/index.htm

If you want details, I probably have, but ask precise questions ...

I haven't that Windsock, but have other books about this aircraft. What do you want to know? I readily will give you an answer, you only have to ask

Thanks for your replies. But it is a modelling question. The Windsock volume I was after deals specifically with Maquette's 1/72 model of the Ilya Muromets bomber and how to deal with its many inaccuracies. That was all I was after - I'm not sufficiently interested in the aircraft to study it in depth. Just a couple of pages would be nice.

But having said that, any diagrams of the cockpit arrangement, engine/radiator set-up, undrcarriage and a clear one of how the thing was rigged would be very very helpful. Thanks

I put few pics from Sky Ship Type "Ilya Muromets", by Marat Khairulin, Ed. Armada N°8, Moscow, in your private box ;

You can download other drawings from the website Airwar.ru :

Good work with your Model ...

Hi confused,

I scanned the article but the files are far too big to attach them to an e-mail and there is appearently no way to attach something to a PM.

The shape of the fuselage is fairly close to Harry Woodman's drawings, but it's orientation is wrong resulting in bow, sternpost, windows and door having the wrong angle. It's a bit like changing a rectangle into a parallelogram. Impossible to change without scratchbuilding but not so visible on the finished model.

I would sand down all raised detail on the fuselage and refine surface detail on tailplane and wings.

Close the rear mg position, replace all transparent parts, difficult on the underside, use Aeroclub guns and Benz Bz IV engines, make new radiators and piping and replace some Strutz on the undercarriage and all at the tailplane. Try finding some suitable props and your model will look quite convincing!
