Hello,
I have been researching
Carl Degelow's D.VII(Alb) for a build of the Eduard kit.
My primary question is what engine was in this aircraft?
There are pictures of Jasta 40 in both Anthology Pt.2 and Osprey's Fokker D.VII aces Pt. 2. Looking at the pics there, here is what I have documented:
In the frontal shot of Jasta 40, Degelow's aircraft is on the extreme right. Degelow's aircraft has the straight propeller, while the others are curved.
There is a very good picture of Rosenstein's aircraft in Anthology 2 and D.VII aces 2 that clearly shows a sighting tube (like Degelow's) and mid-production cowlings.
It seems to me that Rosenstein's aircraft has a BMW engine (straight across manifold). ????
If so, would Degelow's aircraft be so eqiped as well?
I am thinking that the two aircraft would be similar since Rosenstein was Degelow's friend and second in command of Jasta 40.
Perhaps Degelow's memoir mentions what engine was fitted to his D.VII?
If anyone has an opinion, please post it!
Thanks
Gregg Cooper
