French loss 6jan1918

Have a look at:

Does anyone know, who was the pilot of Nieuport N 5449, what was the unit? ... and who was the victor: Udet (Nr. 17th?) or Landin (second victory?)?

Happy New Year,
Thorsten

Hi Thorsten und ein Gutes neues Jahr..!

The french pilot is named Mdl Henri Durrant KIA in the German monthly list of captured aircraft.

Udet with his Jasta 37 was serving in Flanders so we can probably exclude him as responsible...
Also the excellent book about Jasta 32 by Jörg Mückler indicates that Vfw Jakob Landin was the man who got Durrant...

Nice Photograph! If you are thinking of bidding, watch out for Tangouniformtwo - he is completely indiscriminate and seems to have very deep pockets!

Hallo Thorsten,

the pilot was MdL Henri Durand, Esc. N 89. He crashlanded his Nieuport 24 N 5449 at Ommeray due to motor trouble after attacking a german Balloon near Bourdonnay in Lothringen.

Guten Rutsch

Hello Gunnar,

I'm afraid that Jörgs assumption was wrong in this case. Jasta 32 was stationed at Autremencourt north of Laon at this date. Landin claimed his victory near Paissy which is located ca. 18 km SSE of Laon. It would have been a very long distance flight for Landin from Autremencourt to Lorraine and back...

I wish you a Happy New Year,

Immo

Oops Immo

I saw "later" that Durrand actually was reported POW in the monthly list and that the reason for the force landing is given in as engine trouble in the Nachrichtenblätter...
