Vfw. Erich Durre of Jasta 38 who was shot down June 18, 1918 over Stojakowo, Macedonia. A british flyer, Armitage, served with 47 Squadron in Macedonia and Russia. He was never an ace, so I can't look him up in the usual places. He shot-down at least one and possibly two aircraft. I have a piece of dirty old fabric with a Maltese Cross on the back of which is written "Cut from tail of Hun Aircraft SHOT DOWN by Lt. Armitage RFC" along with names of several pilots in the squadron. According to a list of decorations in H.A.Jones, M.C.'s book "Over the Balkans and South Russia," there was a Lt. J.P. Armitage in the squadron as well as F/Sgt. P. Armitage No.313012, probably the same chap. Barely recognizable numbers on back may indicate date shot down was June 18, 1918. which would correlate with Vfw. Erich Durre of Jasta 38 who was shot down that date over Stojakowo, Macedonia. Any corroboration or background on Durre much appreciated. Possibly you chaps with a copy of the ehrentaffel might know something about him. Any idea of what he would have been flying?

In June 1918, 47 Sqn was using Armstrong Whitworth FK8s, so the names on the back of the fabric may be those of the crews involved rather than just pilots. I would imagine that Jasta 38 would have been using Albatros scouts; I note that Durre is shown (The Jasta Pilots) as having scored two victories before his death.

Hi

There is two indications that this is NOT the aircraft of Duerre..
The first is that Jasta Pilots says that he was shot down by a hostile 1-s....
Two pilots from 150 sq..Capts GG Bell and AG Goulding did shot down(shared) an Alb DV North Paljorka at 7:50 this day..perhaps their combat reports can give further information if their were responsible or other/s were involved...?

The second is that the crosses (Maltese) unlikely were in use in June 1918...
