National WW I Memorial

First: OK, this is subject is somewhat misplaced: it does involve GW people, but most of them never got near an aeroplane. However, I think the topic deserves broader attention than in the OT section.

For reasons we may only surmise, no GW memorial has ever been built in DC. At least not that I know of. Now there's no remaining doughboy vets, which means an almost nonexistent constituency. But here's an article worthy of consideration:

Last Doughboy

Veteran Forumites know that I've long (read: always) said that Uncle Sam had no bidness poking his beard in the Eurofeud, especially since it likely would've resulted in a cease-fire sometime in '17. (Even Churchill reputedly said so long after.) The fact that WW injected us into the flail to protect our loans to the Allies in no way should diminish the service of some 4-5 million Yanks who suited up for The Big Game.
