German total aircraft numbers on the WF

Hi All,

I am wondering if anyone can direct me to a reliable source for totals of German aircraft in place on the Western Front at various times during 1914-18. Ideally I am after totals of aircraft at Front Line units month by month.

But frankly, any source that provides anything about numbers of German aircaft on the Western Front would be invaluable.

Thanks for any help, in advance.

Regards,

Trevor Henshaw

Best thing we have is the German Frontbestand, the frontline inventory, compiled bi-monthly

Here you have it in a handy PDF file

http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/ai...ntbestand.html

bottom post, as attachment.

I have found assorted numbers for effective battle strength associated mainly with the German offensives of 1918, and there are assorted production and delivery figures for some types. Compiling and piecing them together would give a more detailed month by month picture, but still fragmentary.

PS This is posted in the wrong place, it should be moved to Other WWI aviation.

Romani, That is awesome! You are definitely on my Christmas Best Wishes List!

Thank you.

And thanks very much also to Preussensglanz for his original great posting.

Trevor

PS Re Forum topic type, I wondered for a while where I should post it, and I just had a hunch that the sort of person who could answer my query would be looking under this one (where I go mostly). But of course you are right.
All the best, and thank you again.

I have put a similar query up on the Great War Forum and will post your link there, as this table is simply invaluable to researchers. Like ALL material of this kind, the more you look at it and the more you test it, the better, but what an invaluable piece of paper!

I've also subsequently found these listings, plus a commentary on them by Grosz himself, in WW1 Aero Copies #107 and #108. They were in my shed all the time!

These journals appear to be downloadable as pdfs on the Net if anyone fancies them.

Thanks again for the original link Romani.

Regards,

Trevor

Romani, many many thanks. An excellent resource. Just for comparison, I'm looking at comparable tables for the US Army Air Forces in WW II, listed monthly. As may be imagined, it's a huge undertaking, and the AAF had an entire bureau, the Statistical Control Office, to juggle all those numbers in daunting variety. the US Navy/Marines had a bimonthly or even weekly series of reports.

My brain hurts.
