Replica SE-5a Kits?
I am new to this forum, but I am wondering if anyone is selling full scale SE-5a kits or drawings that can be used to build one?
Seems to me, flying a replica SE-5a would be a lot of fun.
THANKS

Plans can be found here: About Replicraft
I don't think you'll find a kit...

It's a shame that Airdrome hasn't yet developed an SE5a kit - it would go fantastically with the rest of their designs.
And hey, you COULD have a two-seater if you really wanted...!

as always the engine is the issue, nothing realy fits other than a Hisso. Gipsy Queens and Rangers have been used but they dont fit very well.

Just thinking out loud...
If you wanted to do a full-scale replica (as opposed to a reproduction with a Hisso engine), why not stick something like a Lycoming up front? Probably cheaper and more readily available than a Hispano or a Viper, or even a Gipsy Queen!?

For an engine consider a V6 or small V8. A Lyc or continental will hang out the sides unless the nose is disesthetically widened (whew I should get charged a fee for using such a word!). Or consider one of the aviation Wankels.

I approached Robert (Aierdrome Airplanes out of Holden, MO) about the SE-5 in 2008 at Oshkosh. Unfortunately he brought the protoPup, told me to go ahead and hop to try it on for size and I fell in love.
But he and I had talked then and since about the SE-5. He was very open to it, as long as someone wants to front the developement plane. You may want to check with him and see if he still wants to pursue it.

Since you've already talked to him, and since you are already familiar with the process, what is involved in "fronting" the development plane? A V6 or small V8 won't work. They don't have enough oomph. The last thing you want if you are building an SE5a is to come up with an SE5!

The Airdrome kits (from what I understand) seem to be more geared towards ultralight flyers, so anything like a V6 or V8 is out of the window straight away.
A Rotax 912 or Jabiru would get you along at a reasonable pace, no?
