Hi all

I wonder if anyone has access to any German Army Ehrenrangliste which could give the first name of this fellow...?

Lange was promoted Hptm sometimes late Sep to early Oct 1918, and was also a leader of a Schlachtstaffelgruppe in late 1918..
This Schlachtstaffelgruppe partly served at the "American" sector...

Any hints are welcome
???

Hi Gunnar,

in the german "Ehrenranglisten" a first name is only given if two or more officers of the same name served in the same regiment.

Additionaly the officers were almost always "kommandiert zur Fliegertruppe", which means that they still belonged to their old Stammregiment. So unfortunately it is impossible to find out through the "Ehrenrangliste" if an officer ended his war career with the Fliegertruppe or if he still served with the Infantry, Cavallery or Artillery...

I did not find any first names in the 1914 Army-Ehrenrangliste for the name Lange. I found 3 Lange who survived the war with the rank of Hptm., one served with 1.Lothringisches Infantrie-Regiment Nr.130, another Lange served with 2.Lothringisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr.131 and onother one served with Torgauer Feldartillerie-Regiment Nr.74.

Perhaps one of these men is the Hptm. Lange you are searching for ???

Regards, Immo

Thanks Immo

There seems to be at least three possible candidates..!
Does "this" Ehrenrangliste gives the date of promotion..?
If so we can perhaps exclude some of them, as the flyer Hptm Lange was promoted in circa late Sep 1918...

If we can eliminate two of three possible candidates, perhaps the third can be found in some book of his Regiment...?
There exists a whole bunch of books of different German Regiments to my knowledge, and there is a little chance that many officers are mentioned in them...

But it seems to be a very long way to actually find the first name of this fellow..

Hi Gunnar,
it's the same problem with the Regimentsgeschichten concerning the first names.

The Ehrenranglisten doesn't list the date of promotion...

Another problem in this case is, that for Infanterie-Regiment Nr.131 no "Regimentsgeschichte" exists that covers WW1.

I will try to check the books about IR 130 and FAR 74 but it will take me some time to locate the books.

I think this is a really hard nut to crack. I wonder if Lange possibly was awarded with the Houseorder of Hohenzollern? Then perhaps he is to be found in the Militärwochenblatt :-/

??? ??? ???

Usually, in the regimental histories, these officers 'kommandiert zur Fliegertruppe' can only be found in the 'Ehrentafel' if they died. I fear the search won't be successful.
