Americal/Gryphon info

Hello, I want to place an order for the Americal/Gryphon's A.E.G G-IV decals for the Hi-Tech kit but I don't have much information about them. Anybody can send me a scan of the planes included in the 6 sheets dedicated to the A.E.G? (they include the lozenge?)

The only way to contact Americal/Gryphon people is sending a letter to the address in Texas? They don't have an E-mail or a on-line catalog with pictures? the only web page is this one? http://members.cox.net/tbittners/AG/index.html

I need to know, also, if they take payments through Pay-Pal. Thanks in advance

I don't think Paypal is an option

Like you Kalt, I live in a land far away from Texas, and yes Americal/Gryphon are not easy to deal with but the service is good and so are the decals. I send US cash in the mail, a little risky, but so far no worries. You might be able to organise a bank cheque drawn on a US bank, but at least here in New Zealand those are quite expensive when the amount you need is not large. I better get my last order in quick before they shut up shop at the end of the month!

No, A-G does not accept Paypal . Suggest you find a modeler here in the states who does, and he or she could pay A-G with a money order or check. Better hurry, though. You don't have much time. A-G is closing shop on 31 Dec

Americal/Gryphon decals

Hello!

Who will continue the business of Americal/Gryphon in 2007?

Even in the case that it is not profitable enough for a full-time-business it would be great to get such stuff in the future. Maybe an "decal-enthusiast" can continue the job on a part-time or hobby basis.

Just an idea ...

If nobody does continue Americal's work it will be a shame. Americal was the only place I know of where I could get either nigh Lozenge decals or the Navy hexagon camouflage. I'm not much of a stickler for colors being exactly the right FS595 shade, but I do like use the same brand of decals on all my kits for uniformity so I hardly ever use the camo decals that come with the kits I buy. I suppose I will have to start printing my own decals, unless they sell the sheets that come with the Roden Gotha G.Va/Vb seperately somewhere? Not that they'd be my first choice, the colors seem to light although placing them on a dark base-cote helps fix that up to a point.

Americal has a 1/72 scale sheet containing bolts of preprinted 5 color night Lozenge for which the listing is to be found here:

Americal/Gryphon No. 4 Scale 1:72 Nachtbombengeschwader Camouflage 1917-18 (III)

The same sheet in 1/48 (#27) can be found here.

The other 1/72 scale night camouflage sheets are regular hexagons and the large non-printed lozenge pattern found on early Gothas. Personally I prefer to paint those two patterns by hand because the decals are hard to apply to curved surfaces and even if you succeed in applying them they don't look all that good on such surfaces. Another point is that those two patterns were painted by hand on the real aircraft so applying them that way on the model looks more 'real' the decals are... well... to neat.

Americal/Gryphon decal info

Hi,
If Americal/ Gryphon did indeed close shop on Dec. 31st, it looks like I missed the boat again. I attempted to telephone them today in Huston via Directory Assistance, but no luck there - no phone number available.
Does anyone know if there are any distributers of these fine decals??? I checked at Squadron, Roll Models, and Rosemont so far, without success. I would GREATLY appreciate any leads. Shall see if any are currently listed on e-Bay. Thanks.

Sorry but they have always only been the sole seller. They have only worked on demand/order. Hence no stock for shops.

I have seen some on eBay in the last few days.

Post What comes next?

It is sad to see when supplier of good modelling stuff closes shop. But there is still an unanswered question:

Who will continue the business of Americal/Gryphon in 2007?

It doesn't matter if there will be a new name - if only the quality will be equally good or the successor of Americal/Gryphon can offer an improved 'ordering system' (e-mail, Fax, improved payment possibilities, etc.)

Any ideas?
