Can anyone help?

I am looking for more information, i.e. a 3 view profile/photographs (if possible) of a particular Fokker DR1 of Jasta 6. The only information I have is a side view which appeared on p4 of issue No8 of 'Modelaid International', 1985. The caption reads "Fokker DR1 of Jasta 6. Overall white with black stripes".

The side view (engine to left hand side) has the black stripes running from left to right along the entire fuselage, the 'Cross Patee' is painted direct over the striping on the fuselage (no white band) approximately midway between cockpit and tail. The rudder is plain white with black 'Patee'. Wheels are plain white as is the cowl. The striping on the tops of the wings appears to run from right to left (if viewed in plan).

Any information would be much appreciated

Regards
Chrisp

Pilot: Hans Kirschstein who was also the Jastaführer. The clearest photo appears in Neal O'Connor's Vol. VI of Aviation Awards of Imperial German in World War One and the Men who Earned Them.

It sounds like the earliest drawing of the Black and white version of Kirchstein's mount. Paul S. Leaman did a *1/72 scale model of this *'Striped Tripe' years ago and was in his Airfix Magazine articles on the Fokker Dr.I. This early drawing was made based on a verbal description of a photo. *It makes a good scheme for board games, simulators and a model shelf. The wings were striped in the same colors but angled meeting on the center axis like chevrons.

If you would like to see a good version of it, Hallmark had put out a metal model of it in their Legends of Flight series. You can still find it on Ebay as Hallmark stopped making the series. I have two and converted one to Udet's version which is nothing more than adding his famous "LO!" to the side of it.

Sorry Stephen,

but I have to insist concerning the spelling:

The man´s name is KIRSCHSTEIN not Kirchstein.

That is one letter more but also a different meaning: Cherry stone vs Church stone.

chrisp:

I'd look at more recent photo sources rather than the old out of date article if you want to be more accurate.

G'day, all,

I would very much appreciate if anyone can provide scans of the earlier renditions of Kirschstein's "Optical Illusion" mentioned here--the Leaman(?)/Gray(?) in Airfix Magazine and the Owers in Aviation News for a current project on this airframe.

TIA to all and best wishes for the New Year,
Stefen
