Hi friends,

If you read the thread I started in "other WW1 aviation", you would know that I am searching for information on Lt. Buckler's
first Albatros DV. Information on markings and dates would be helpful.

Thanks,

JASTA 75

If you have access, there is an article on Julius Buckler
in "Over the Front" Vol 13 No. 2. There is a photo of Albatros D.III 2033/16 which Buckler christened "Mops".
Dan-San Abbott has a drawing of Albatros D.V "Mops" . On my copy of his drawings , it is numbered as Js17-3.

Does Dan-San say what the tail unit colors were for Jasta 17 D.Vs? The earlier D.II and D.IIIs had stripes in varying configurations just in front of the tail sections on otherwise factory finished aircraft. Some had pet names like "Mops" and "Fips." There were several variations on the stripes. They weren't black and white if you look at the tonal values. The lighter hue in the stripes was darker than the white surround of the adjacent fuselage cross.

The D.Vs seem to have had the tail unit painted a darker color, but in photos I have seen, no more bands. Mops has its pet name still.

In Dan's drawing the horizontal Stab is white and black in the same style as Jasta 26. The wheel centres are white with black stripe running down middle.Spinner, fuselage, fin, and rudder *black. Wings mauve and green / bottom lt. blue . It appears all struts black.
*The white might be thin or one coat without the covering power of the factory cross.

I forgot "Mops" in white on spinner back edge between the blades.

Thanks very much lesdamiers! I really like Buckler. I've been reading his book, "Malaula, Kampfruf Meiner Staffel." It is a good read.
