What engine does he have in the SPAD? Never saw one without a real or false radiator in the front. Is it a flat 4 0r 6? I notice the bulge just below the exhaust.

I think it's a Lycoming 0-360
There are a number of videos of it on Youtube,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W82bBqujgOw and I think one of it being used in a re-enactment of the Battle of the Piave River-

His fuselage construction technique seems quite interesting. I notice that it is the same as he used for the tail-booms on the Caproni. I wonder if the Caproni was originally struts and wire, like many, (most?) of the English planes of the time, and of course, the Spad.

It looks rigid truss not unlike the welded frames on Fokkers, but built up wood?. Maybe with more moment capacity at the connections.

Has anyone seen this anywhere else?

hallo J Ferguson,

the original structure of Caproni tailbooms was indeed woden but the cross bracing was made with wire... it´s someting very close to a Bleriot XI fusoleage. Zanardo has heavily changed it.

The forum will automatically resize photos for you. Go to the User Control panel - Edit options: http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/pr...do=editoptions

scroll down to near the bottom, look for: The Image Resizer. Play around with the different options to find one that works for you and your browser.
