the first air war

Dear Friends from the Aerodrome,

I would like to know if some can help me get more information about this two books,

Aces and Airmen Of World War I by Alan C. Wood

The First Air War: The Pictorial History 1914-1919
by T. Treadwell

I live in Nicaragua and here we do not have a special Bookstore so If I need a special title I have to buy it in the Internet, the problem with this is that sometimes what looks promising at the end is not.

I would like to get more information on Uniforms, tactics and the flying machines in the WWI, I know that Osprey has many titles but would like something bigger, if you have any recommendation please let me know.

Thanks in advance for any help you can get me

Hi Eduardo,

Your best bet for sourcing books over the internet is:www.abebooks.com which links an enormous amount of new and secondhand book sellers.

I've used abebooks a huge amount as I have lived in Arctic Norway and am now in Chile, so I have to use the internet to pick up nearly all my books.

I have never had any problems with an abebooks listed seller and I must have purchased over 20 or 30 books using it.

In terms of uniform related books and so on, I'd still recommend the Osprey volumes. Terry Treadwell doesn't have a fantastic reputation so I'd be suspicious of any works by him.

In terms of a general work on the airwar you can't go past Alan Clark's "Aces High" which is a good overview, tons of pics and the very nice (although sometimes erroneous) paintings of Michael Turner. Just make sure you pick up the 1999 reprint.

Good luck with the book hunting and welcome to the 'drome!

Junior.

You should have a go with:

http://used.addall.com

As it searches a number of other used book search engines, including Abebooks, and puts the results into a single list. I buy virtually all my second hand books through this these days.

Often it's also worth searching Amazon, even for fairly old books. As well as the books Amazon itself is selling there's also a lot of used books being sold through there as well and occasionally I find items that either aren't listed on addall or are much cheaper.

For book reviews, apart from the excellent section at this site, you might also want to browse around C&CI's book reviews:

http://www.crossandcockade.com/reviews.htm

Have fun
