I know, it's the wrong war, but......
The Olympia, WA airport has some nice warbirds gathering for this weekend's "Lakefair".
Yesterday, while waiting for clearance to taxi, I watched a Skyraider and a Mustang take off together.
After my lesson, we taxied past a Vought Corsair.
Hopefully I'll get to linger this Sunday after my next lesson.
If I get any good pics I'll try to post them.
(I never realized how huge the Skyraider was until I saw it dwarf the P-51!!!!!!)

Hello Mike,
We had an Airshow here at N.A.S. Fallon the 2nd and 3rd of June, there were a couple of old warbirds here, a Mustang and a Spitfire or Hawker Hurricane. I Looooove the clean lines on them! But I still won't forget the feeling I got the one time when I watched the B-17 fly over the El Cajon area of San Diego. Of course I'm sure some of the good liberal residents thereof complained about the noise ... " STOP IT .... its too louuuuuuud!" Just like they did when the Marine helos took over Miramar turning it into MCAS MIRAMAR. " You got to fly different routes ... its too LOUD. And you're scaring Bambi and Thumper away." Of course when the helos crash and get shot down in battle it'll be ..." Well what happened to all that training you guys were supposed to be doing?" Of course they don't realize that the training time is now shortened, because the pilots have to allow more time to take the different air routes to land, in order not to be too noisy and drive Bambi and Thumper off. California ... The People's Republic Of ...!
Sorry ... rant button off!

Hey there Tim King,
YOU just might want to go back and study your American history a little more carefully. IF you DID you might just find that every time the general populace thought there was no need for a strong military ... that was just about the time a war broke out! For my own branch of service after the War for Independence was won right around 1790 the Continental Congress was going to disband us. Just about then the Barbary wars broke out. Again in 1852-1856 the Nation was looking at doing away with us ... and we all know what happened in 1861. Then after WW1 was over the nation thought ... " Well that's it then, we don't need a real strong military because we won't have any more wars" AND WE ALL KNOW WHAT HAPPENED IN 1939 - 1945. Then after the Cold War was over all the liberal eunuchs think, "Well now there is no threat, we don't need a strong military any more." " All we need is a smaller, more highly trained one." But they don't want us training need any populated areas, and fer chrissakes watch the vegetation and natural Fauna when you are training. " Don't step on the "protected ... endangered ... highly prized Butt Weasel ... or we'll kill ya!" "And what ever you do ... don't mess up the environment!" Mother Earth ... hug a tree ... eat a beaver ... yadda-yadda! You seem to number among that group who constantly FORGETS that history will repeat itself, and blithely frolicks along disregarding the timeless maxim handed to us from the ancient Romans - "Qui desiderat pacem, preaparat bellum!" Who desires peace .... prepares for war.
But if someone points this out you respond with ... "You &$%@# Nazi!"
You foolish ... foolish ... little man!
Regards,
Jim 'ACE' -

Back to you Jim "Ace"
No, no ol' buddy, what you have is more like a sickness than patriotism. So, are you concerned with the acts of the Taliban in Afghanistan? Do you give a rip about genocide? What exactly do you know about history repeating itself? Do you know what Pol Pot did in the 1970s after we left Southeast Asia? Do you know that he killed more Cambodians than Hitler killed jews? (I didn't say he killed more people) What do you know about WWII? And what is the "my service" that you made reference to? Would you be talking about "MY" service, the U.S. Marines? I seriously doubt it. Your attitude has nothing to do with the honorable service that carries names like "Chesty" Puller. I think you may have founded the "He man liberal=haters club" though. You wouldn't even know if people like me believe in a strong military. Of course we do! We just have a distrust of all the garbage that passes our way. It costs more to build a B-2 than it would have taken to help California out of it's energy blackouts. (I know, you don't care if those cars are plowing into each other at the non-functioning stoplights - they're probably liberals anyway... right?) Stick up for your "people" who live and thrive at the expense of others. One thing it may do you well to remember though, don't misunderstand people and their intentions.
Peace,
Tim

"Do you know what Pol Pot did in the 1970s after we left Southeast Asia? Do you know that he killed more Cambodians than Hitler killed jews?"
The "Killing Fields" resulted in the elimination of 2 million Cambodians.....the Holocaust accounted for 6 million Jews (and seven million other "non-Aryans").
The Khmer Rouge only gained power because the liberals and radicals in the US, basking in their new-found clout after getting the US to stop funding the South Vietnamese army, then pressured Congress to end all aid to the Cambodian army.
Of course, what happened after that is conveniently ignored, or denied, by American liberal apologists.
Noam Chomsky had the unmitigated gall to state that the slaughter of the Cambodians was a direct result of racism in America.

Obviously, we are meant to agree on nothing. I can accept that, you have every right to believe what you want. Your figures on the mass slaughter of Cambodians don't match anything I have ever come across though. Of course when people don't have white skin they don't tend to count as much in our Western society, in our "fair" country that denied the right of black Americans to fight in anything but prejudice circumstances right through and beyond WWII. (I've interviewed several Tuskegee Airmen personally, I'll accept no denial of that one - and they're only one small example) I'm not surprised that someone would downplay Cambodian genocide. Yes, I've seen The Killing Fields many times and I have nothing but high regard for that movie. However, that is all that it is, a movie. Your figure of two million is wrong. Do you know about the fate of Sean Flynn? Oh wait, I guess you would have just regarded him as a member of the "liberal media." THANK GOD for the media that doesn't pander to big brother. Thank God for the "other" heroes who go into combat to bring back stories and images of the reality of it all. (talk about people who get no praise) Thank God for the images at Mi Lai. We have to face down our past if we are ever going to learn anything from it. Have you studied Diem and his buddies in Saigon in the early days of our involvement? I wasn't there, and I don't claim to have that first-hand knowledge. But from what I have read, the corruption in that government makes some of our serious scandals look tame in comparison. The truth is, only open-minded people are trustworthy as information sources. Finally, your President did a good thing awarding the Civillian Medal of Honor to the Navajo Code-Talkers today. It couldn't just be his appeal for minority votes like the immigration thing, right?
