Absolute rubbish. That was the #1 goal of any pursuit pilot. To find, persue and destroy Two-seater recon A/C. Considering the Baron's ride was usually more manuverable to the scouts he frequently was matched against, I would say that a scout(which could not fire back if you are on it's ass) is an easier kill for a german scout pilot.
A recon aircraft nearly killed BvR, hardly an easy target. A small chance is better than no chance at all.
