Dear Forumites,
There are of course quite a few memoirs by German pilots available, and I opted to translate some of the lesser known memoirs that aren't available to English speaking audiences (by Buddecke, von Tutschek and Gontermann). The memoir by Schaefer ('Vom Jaeger zum Flieger'), perhaps Udet's 'Kreuz wider Kokarde' ('Mein Fliegerleben' has already been translated as 'Ace of the Iron Cross' in the late 1960s) and a few others are also on the agenda. I'm the translator for this volume and I also wrote introductions to each memoir to put them in a historical context.
Lance Bronnenkant's top-notch 'Blue Max Airmen' (as well as some other publications) includes excerpts from these memoirs. I would highly recommend Bronnenkant's volumes for details about aircraft, squadron data and biographical background, but I hope that audiences will enjoy the complete translations to add to their collections and knowledge, as these memoirs provide fascinating insight into the psychology, experiences and perceptions of the pilots.

Best wishes,
Jason Crouthamel
