Rbailey correctly identified the
Longren Model H.
We had the previous types - Model F (challenge #578) and Model G (challenge #543) already covered in this game.
However, the Model H was not the last Topeka machine built by Longren.
It was the last of his first enterprise "Longren Aircraft Co." The story tells after rejected army contracts for his trainer biplane Model G, Longren built another machine, which he wanted to sell to a customer at LeRoy, KS. When he flew the new machine to LeRoy, his engine failed, Longren went down, crashed and killed a cow.
The Air&Space mag tells: "The cow cost Longren $100; the wreck cost him his investors." So Longren had to close his company.
But in 1919 he returned to Topeka, founded the "Longren Aircraft Corp." and started again with an almost similar machine Model H-2. Others followed in the years to come.
