If you are not in a super panic for a book, it does pay to keep an eye on Amazon and wait.
I just bought a replacement for my much-read copy of McCudden's "Flying Fury" on Amazon, from a seller in England. Right now, PB copies list from $42.33 to $85.95 and HC from $27.60 to $5283.72 (no kidding).
My HC copy cost me $2.59 and with postage to Canada the total was $9.08 ... about $6.81US. Yes, it was used but in VG condition and didn't hurt my budget.
I do sometimes buy books at full retail and thereby support the author, publisher, shipping company and various others who need to make a living. But when it comes right down to it, my financial wellbeing is more important than theirs, in my view. Welcome to the world of old-age pension.
