Hi Cary,
In 'The Jasta Pilots' by Norman Franks, Frank Bailey and Rick Duiven on page 334 they show a D.VI in side profile only with the following info;
'According to US intelligence, aircraft had tails painted in black and white stripes. Ltn Spiedel's Fokker D.VI had two chordwise white stripes only on a lozenge fabric tailplane, and a black rear fuselage'.
The side profile shows the black rear fuselage begining at the rear of the cockpit and finishing at the begining of the tail.
Just found Windsock Data File no 84 on the Fokker D.VI, you should really try and get a copy or a loan of this if you want to model Seit's aircraft. The cover has a beautiful painting of his D.VI. Just to give you an idea here is the blurb on the front cover painting. It titled 'Eyes, teeth and Spandaus! by Brian Knight.
Ltn.
Kurt Seit of Jasta 80b flew this highly decorated, black tailed D.VI in 1918. Bavarian blue and white enemel has been applied to the fuselage sides and also to the cowling (shades of
Werner Voss!). The row of teeth were neatly rendered; after the war Kurt became a dentist in Stuttgart.
He also had the name Fratz applied to the forward fuselage.The data file has some very good photos of his aircraft inside and the rear cover shows his aircraft in plan view as well. It would make a great colour scheme for a flying scale model.
Please post a photo of the finished aircraft and let me know where to find it.
Happy Hunting
