The AEF purchased machines from both the French and British, Unless specific contracts called for specific paint colours they were usually done with th license builders stocks. This is especially true early in 1918. It is noted that some AEF Gnome powered Sopwith F.I Camels had the darker American Blue/ black cockades. These were ordered by contract.
