US blue in markings

This has probably been beaten to death, but I am somewhat confused on the shade of blue used by US aircraft both in the cockades of WWI combat aircraft and the disc and star insignia of US aircraft at home as well as the rudder stripes.

I have read that this blue was of a lighter shade said than the dark blue (Navy?) used starting in 1925, perhaps between what the navy called true blue and dark blue, something akin to Ultramarine blue.

Was there any data at least suggesting the appearance of US blue shades in
WWI? Was there a difference in paint used on combat aircraft (French stocks/British stocks) or US stocks used in the States?

There is a suggestion that the dark blue we know today in US aircraft was not instituted until 1926.
