So, I gained some weight and give my last message for today:
Jeroen,
Stiebitz was erected earlier but is NOT really a military Fliegerstation.
Based on contemporary documents I defined (military) Fliegerstation on page 7 of our Großenhain-book in the following manner:
"Als Fliegerstation wurde damals eine ständige Einrichtung mit fest gebauten Hallen samt Unterkünften, Schulgebäuden, Werft, Tankanlagen und Kommandantur bezeichnet, die mehrere Flieger-Abteilungen aufnehmen, mobilisieren und demobilisieren konnte. Werksflugplätze und Übungs- oder Notlandeplätze, die nur zeitweilig genutzt wurden, waren keine Fliegerstationen."
Stiebitz was not able to give shelter to 2, 3 or more Flieger-Abteilungen (at least 12 or 18 airplanes!, it was too little). Also the other criteria are not fullfilled. Therefore it was called correctly as "Flugstützpunkt" in more precise documents!
You are really good informed, did you also visit Stiebitz?
and: Yes, clear, I am interested in these photographs. I PM you tomorrow!
Hi Bruno,
I think the monument was near to the crash site anywhere between Sallaumines and Avion but I think the chances of a survvial of the monument are low. Tomorrow I will look for my (sadly pale) photograph of the monument and see if I can scan that for you. I believe the card had written on the backside the monument was located between Sallaumines and Lens but I have to check that.
If you can look and sniffle around in that area - maybe you can gain great information for you and all of us!
Very best regards
Hannes
