Ginge, no need for expensive illuminated magnifiers and all that shenanagans. Get down to your local market and spend a couple of quid on some cheap reading bins. A magnification of x1 is just fine for most modeling work, experiment with something slightly stronger for the detailed stuff. Other than that, try wearing boxing gloves when you go to bed at night :
