Hi

FAA 209 (earlier AFA 209) is one of the units where I have rather limited information, mostly depending on that they were situated at 5 Army (Verdun area) and later 7 Army (Laon area), and that basic material for these front areas is rather certain easiest to find in US...

Funck was the original commander of the unit in 1915 and left in Sep 1916. However I am not sure who took over directly after him....It might have been Hptm x Wehrmann who at least was the leader during 1917....anyone knew the first name of Wehrmann...??

Oblt Walter Wittstock (O) was one of the flyers who Funck apparently took with from his earlier service in FFA 45...Wittstock was later promoted to Hptm...

I dont have Lt Schlegel or Lt Guskens in my file of this unit...

However a very famous pilot who served within this unit in 1916 is Uffz Julius Buckler who later received the PlM. Also his regular observer Lt Kurt Rudno-Rudzinski..

Another Ace who served within the unit was Lt dR Arnd Benzler who ended up with 9 victories...

Other men from 1916:
Fw Gustav Friedrich Neumann (x)
Gefr Walter Oswald (P), KIA 2 May 16
Lt Karl Schlunk (0), KIA 2 May 16
Lt x Tesdorpf (O)
Uffz Friedrich Rüdenberg (P)
Uffz Rudolph Darr and Uffz Edgar Hübner where probably ground crews..??
Vfw Franz Hilger (P)
Oblt Alex Thomas (O), later Jasta 13

Perhaps also Uffz Rudolf Klamt (P) and Vfw Hans Ziegler (x) served in the unit during 1916..

Hope it helps a little

Gunnar
