I'm not really sure how much there is to say about him. While he had great success as a fighter pilot I am not aware of any great contributions as a tactician or leader. His career seems somewhat mercurial, with 24 victories in his first year+ of combat and then 30 more in the last two and a half months (D.VII was a hell of a ride). He was a young man with a gift for flying a fighter aircraft who, like many WWI pilots, never saw his 22nd birthday.
