hello gentlemen,
I have some doubt about Chateau Vaux in the Aisne area.
A. Imrie in Osprey "german fighter units 1914/17" gives the following clues :
KEK nord at Bertincourt, KEK sud at Vaux,
Voisin downed near Chaulnes (2/2/1916),
B.E. downed between Grevillers and Irles(5/2/1916)
If you search these places with viamichelin.fr (useful tool to locate places quickly), you will find they are inside a Arras/Amiens/Saint-Quentin triangle.
Townsend Jasta location site places Vaux at Rethel on the Aisne river. This mean a 250km trip in a Fokker E.III to down a B.E. near Bapaume
Moreover, in july 1915, FFA23 was at Roupy, "nearby chateau Vaux" according to Imrie. There is still an airfieldf at Roupy, 5km west of Saint-Quentin.
IMHO, Vaux was not a village, it was a manor (see Buddeke photos for not so big stairs and door) outside Saint-Quentin; destroyed in march 1917 when the germans retreated for stronger positions.
It's just a guesswork, i may be completely wrong but i have fun making this research. Someone must know the precise location, an airfield does not disappear like this.
