The owner of Markebeke Kasteel is the Baron DeBethune, in the spring of 1998, while on an Aertour, our group was invited in to view the interior of the castle. I walked through the second floor rooms occupied my MvR during his stay in 1917, the entire castle is having its interior restored, although our guide at the castle showed us everything the castle contained regarding the occupation of JG 1, there was no mention of uniforms. I was able to return the next day alone ad walked the grounds and interior at my own pace,I was able to locate almost every location today that was photographed back in 1917, I really had an exceptional visit there.
