The standard British flight was six aircraft, and generally speaking five of them could be considered airworthy at a given time. A squadron consisted of A, B and C flights for a total of 18. A Major was generally the CO, with Captains as flight leaders and Lt's as deputy leaders, with rank and file pilots as 2Lt's.
