Let's be generous and say it's intended to be a tribute to McCudden; that said, it's a poor one, not even including replicas of the gallantry awards he received - VC, DSO & Bar, MC & Bar, MM and since he had been Mentioned in Despatches (a pre-requisite for award of the DSO) there would be an oak leaf on the Victory Medal.
The display has what seems to be the 1914-15 Star, War Medal and Victory Medal - in keeping with the period - but then appears to show the ribbon for the Royal Victorian Medal and the ribbon for the civil division of the British Empire Medal; the conjoined busts of King George V and Queen Mary date the medal to no earlier than 1935 and that style of ribbon was implemented on 30 July 1937. Think I'll pass on this one. Graeme As far as I know, McCudden's full set of medals (including the French Croix de Guerre) is still housed in the Royal Engineers Museum in Chatham, Kent. |
Yup, more fleabay crap.

"Just hours before his last flight McCudden had visited his sister and handed her an envelope, which she subsequently found to contain all of his medals. That envelope was eventually entrusted to the Museum by the McCudden family. Today James McCudden's medals, including his Victoria Cross are now displayed within the museums’ medal gallery, alongside those dearest to him- his brothers John and William and his father."
