Victory in East - 1914 (!)
Hi All,
From what I can gather from the translation, this webpage states that a Russian and German pilot killed each other in August 1914, at a place named Działdowo. http://mojemazury.pl/60222,Dzialdowo...-Lotnikow.html The story resembles that of Piotr Nesterov who rammed his opponent, but this latter event took place near Lviv which was hundreds of miles away. So who were the pilots at Dzialdowo? Thanks, Matt. |

This is interesting and news to me but then nothing comes as a surprise when discussing war in the East... http://www.rowery.olsztyn.pl/wiki/mi...skie/dzialdowo Midway down the page using Google translate there was this... https://translate.google.com/transla...wo&prev=search foot note 4 "inscriptions on old postcards ( Massengrab deutscher und russischer Krieger ) suggest that it is a collective grave of Russian and German soldiers - not necessarily pilots." |
Hi CJ,
Maybe that's the reason why the memorial does not mention any names. I was interested to see the gravestone and read on your first link that Lt Hans Barczewski (died in 1916 with FEA 8) was from Dzialdowo. |
