HMS Furious operating in North-sea at 19th June 1918?
 

Hello,

do somebody know more about the operations of the aircraft carrier Furious around the 19th June 1918?

Furious was attacked twice this day by German air-crafts coming from the Seaplane-Station List.
According to the Seaplane-reports, maybe one Destroyer was hit.

Can you tell me which units were involved on British side, which ships formed the escort for or what was the aim of the operation?

There is a little bit in the old Warship Profile No. 23, Sir.

This states that on June 19, 1918, 'the squadron with which she [H.M.S. Furious] was operating was attacked by German seaplanes. Furious launched two Camels who succeeded in shooting down one of the enemy, the crew being picked up by the destroyer Valentine.'

Earlier, it is stated that 'throughout the summer and autumn [of 1918] Furious accompanied units of the fleet on various operations, primarily to provide fighters to drive off enemy Zeppelins or seaplanes. There were submarine attacks on her and her escorts but otherwise contact with the enemy only rarely came her way.'

It is evident from the text that H.M.S. Furious operate mostly with the battlecruisers, as it had sufficient speed to keep up with them.

Another destroyer in the escort then, Herr Strasser, was H.M.S. Westminster.

It is a site set up by a descendant of a pilot on H.M.S. Furious during June of 1918.

I learned by a friend of mine the Aircraft-carrier was escorted by the 1st light cruiser squadron.

This seems to fit very well to the information about HMS WESTMINSTER and HMS VALENTINE.

But still a lot of work to do...
