A group wants to restore the BLUE MAX Triplane!
I couldn't believe my eyes when I found this site! A group wants to restore one of the Tripes used in the Blue Max. The site has a lot of photos- some I've not seen before.
I might have to get myself a "Save the Triplane" T-shirt or mug. If I remember correctly, the son of one of the stunt pilots from that movie, and a few other movies is on here. Blue-Max-Triplane |
Look at Major Larabee's threads BB
Dave. |
Oh dear, is this a dup? I tried to see if someone else had already started one on this but didn't see one.
I left a message for the Major telling him about this, in case he had not heard. |
No probs mate----I believe it is his tripe, but check back in his post history for some great stuff.
Cheers, Dave.:) |
I didn't see anything in his recent posting history. However, I left him a message on his page.
Thanks for the heads up! |
mmmmmmm! I may have this one wrong BB----sorry if I have led you up the garden path:blush:
Cheers, Dave. |
Actually this has been discussed for quite some time on the Replica planes thread... here is the thread on the recovery and begining of the rebuild of the aircraft:

Blue Max Triplane

Hello to you all. I have been away from this forum for a while, as was noted by an earlier post in this thread.
This specific bird is Serial number 001. It is being restored in the USA. The second bird that was in the care of Mr Boddington in the UK has been sold last year to a collection in France. Please see Blue-Max-Triplane for future updates, and also to see the many new photos that were put up as of the first of February 2011. We will be putting a book together as well in the future, so there are tons more photos to look forward to enjoying while we get this old beast back in the air. We have just re-acquired one of the 4 mini Se5a replicas that were part of the former collection, when this Dr.1 was housed in Ireland. As a small group, we have our work cut out for us.:work: Thank you all for the interest in this machine. |
